When the model is already varnished, we can prepare the oil paint.
The basis for using oil paint is thinner, I use "white spirit" but you can also use another.
Oil paints give us the opportunity to use them in two ways: as a wash or denser to do damage, splintering and stains.
Used components. |
If necessary, you can remove the whole wash.
Ready black wash. |
Washed elements. |
The second way we can do damage to the casing and other metal components and chips, scratches and stain (I'll talk about stains later)
The advantage of oil paints is that they mix well on the model, and you can create a light structure of corrosion. Rust in nature is not "flat" but slightly convex, and with this technology we can get that effect.
I will not suggest what colors to use because it is an individual thing, it's important to start with the darkest color, which should be quite thick. Oil paint dries very slowly, so we have time to apply a second coat of paint thinner and lighter. What's important is to paint thinner layers, which will allow us to more easily mix with the already placed layer. If you think that the two layers are enough just end at this point. I decided to add in some places, a third layer, the brightest and less dense than the other. for more demanding edges can select the color white or something very light.
Same as with Wash, unsuccessful result of our work, can be at any time removed and then repainted.
Step 1
Only used brown
paint. Step 2 |
I used a mixture of colors - brown and dark red |
Step 3
I added orange paint. |

Finally- stains. Making them is not difficult, and the result is really satisfying because of the very natural look.We need to make them lightly thinned, painted in the exact color in which you want them to be, because there will be no possibility to change them.
With paint a small point at the place where you want to begin your stain. Then, take a larger brush soaked in thinner, lightly filtered, and drag from our point of paint towards down. You should get a nice stain. if it does not suit us wipe it, and do all over again.
Length of stains depends on the amount of paint that will do the starting point, the more it will be longer. Really, it is not difficult, you should feel the amount of paint and thinner on the brush and practice, the effects will satisfy you.

If in doubt, just ask.
Have a nice painting.
